  Biography

Growing  up in a family that was very supportive of her art endeavors was the moving force behind JoAnn's choice of art as her path of creative expression.
Her grandmother and great-grandmother were watercolor painters. Being encouraged by the people close to her, she was always creating art in some form.
JoAnn studied oil painting at Ursuline College in Louisville, Kentucky. Most of the art she created in the 60's and 70's was painted in oil and mixed media.
She participated in art shows held in Louisville, Kentucky  and Livonia, Michigan. Her paintings were exhibited in a Southfield, Michigan gallery.
"In that period of time I loved to paint very large and meaningful paintings!," she says, with a smile.
In the late 70's JoAnn took a very long break from painting,,,to study life, among other things! In the 90's she became interested in watercolor painting.
With  encouragement from her daughter, she became a student in a watercolor workshop
Since then she has been deeply engaged in celebrating her talent thru watercolor and acrylic painting.
Although she has had some formal training, she says, "I consider myself an "on-going-self-taught-artist" with a little help from this beautiful world/nature we live in!
"Who would not want to capture the beauty?" she questions.  JoAnn continues to attend private painting classes & workshops to expand her painting expertise.
She is a member of the Petaluma Art  Association, Petaluma Arts Council, and WASCO. Local gallery exhibitions and outdoor events in the area are also on her schedule.
JoAnn is a founding member of  The Riverfront Art Gallery, 132 Petaluma Boulevard north, Petaluma., CA.
